| About the Club
Southwest Sunset Volleyball Club originally was
organized by Jim Reed and Laurie Obreza as Southwest
Florida VBC in 1983. Southwest Florida was a small,
handful of area players from Naples, Ft. Myers and Port
Charlotte who banded together to play in adult USVBA
events around the state.
In 1985, Southwest Florida VBC
joined Tampa Bay Juniors, Florida Gold Coast and South
Florida VBC to establish the Florida Region, allowing
for the first junior competition in the state. In 1988,
Southwest FLorida VBC incorporated the club as a
non-profit Florida corporation. In 1992, Lee/Collier
Sunset VBC was organized by Tom Baxter. Both clubs
coexisted in the area for three years until 1995, when
Southwest Florida merged with Lee/Collier Sunset VBC to
become Southwest Sunset.
Other area clubs have come and
gone, but Southwest Sunset continues to provide
high-quality coaching and competitive playing
opportunities for the youth of Southwest Florida. |
